I have lost my mucus plug, had my membranes stripped as of this past Saturday.... the contractions are stronger since Saturday but I am still 3-4 cm dilated... Does it take a while longer?

Go to the nearest mall with a friend and walk up and down the aisles for a while. Excerise is supposed to help speed things up. And if you feel up to it, have intercourse with your husband. My doc told me that as long as the water bag is intact, there is no risk of infection and some members of the healthcare community believe sperm has a natural chemical that induces labor. Having said all that, none of it did it for me (also my first one) so I begged my doctor to help me go into labor. ( I had been in preterm labor for weeks!!!) So she manually separated the waterbag from the cervix in her office. It took a few seconds, was not too uncomfortable and it got the contractions coming really fast. Two hours later, she broke my water bag and the rest was a piece of cake. Pushed for less than 15 min. and my baby was with us! Good luck

It takes until your body and your baby are ready. There's really no way for us to tell you when you'll go into labor. How far dilated you are really means very little. Some midwives won't even do cervical checks prior to labor for this reason. You can walk around a week or more dilated 3-4 cm and 100% effaced (I did with my first!) or you can be closed up tight as a bank vault and have a baby a few hours later. Be patient and trust your body. Your baby will come when it is time.

Every pregnancy is different. Once they strip your membranes the contractions do get stronger. I had the same thing done to me after I lost my plug and they ended up enducing me a week later. The contractions felt strong although I never dialed past 4 cm. Best of luck to you! Enjoy your pregnancy, it will be over before you know it!!!

I was 4cm dialated until half an hour before my son was born. The doctor kept telling my parents that I wasn't having the baby now and since it was my first baby that I must be exagerating the pain, especially since I was a week early. HA! Half an hour later he was born. You now what you're going through. If you know in your heart and head that you are in labor, go to the hospital.

Wow how exciting! It took me about 22 hours for me to be 3/4cm dilated, then an hour later my son was born. So it could be any time, lol. Good luck! :-)

If you are not being induced, I am willing to put my money on 1 week, 2 at the most. Congratulations.
