The saying comes from East London and the term stems from the word dough-nut!
When doughnuts first came to the U.K you could get some with sugar and some without and hence the term.

No idea, but Sweet F.A. comes from the murder of an 8yr old girl called (sweet) Fanny Adams - she was murdered, cut into pieces and thrown in to the river Wey (at the same time the English navy changed their rations to low-grade tins of sweetened chopped up mutton.....the sailors started the term in reference to their meat being akin to the murdered girl! Which is nice!
