It's not so much being on the same contraceptive pill, but being on contraception in general for a long time that may cause problems. The doctors aren't really sure if hormones have long term affects as they haven't been around long enough for them to do longitudanal studies so they usually advise against long term use, just in case.

Usually irregular periods are solved by the use of the contraceptive pill so it's not that likely that they are causing your prob;ems, but still possible. If you are worried, go see your gp and get checked out. Good luck.

it is better for your body to be on the same pill and have a regulated pattern than to chop and change. But consider the effects to your health, taking hormones for that long could be bad for you. I stopped taking the pill 2 years ago after being on it for 4 years and i feel more balanced and natural since i stopped. Something else women should think about is the amount of estrogen that is filtering through into our water supply, the quantity that gets through our system that we pass in our urine is being ingested by everyone else in the water that we drink. Not good for the males of the species, also majorly responsible for low reproductivity in many species of fish and other aquatic life, estrogen has a terribly detremental effect on the sperm count. Consider.

As long as you feel comfortable with the kind of the pill you use, you can continue using it for long time but if your pill is containing progesterone-only kind, it may cause irregular bleeding for several months. If so, you may try another pill such as combination pill. See your doctor for proper advise.
