Recently got myself into a similar situation - saying yes when I really wanted to say no because it was family. After the event I saw something useful though, instead of saying an automatic yes (even if you do know what it is), say 'I'll think about it' or 'I'll have and think get back to you on that'. It gives you time to work out what it is they are asking by thinking about the questions and the details you might want to check. Oh and think of excuses if you really really don't want to do it. I'm hoping to train myself to use the phrase.

So very often we get ourselves into things like that, especially for people we care about..(friends and family).
Too many times, I say yes to things I don't really want to do, like babysitting or more babysitting, but I never would say yes to a favor unless I knew what the favor was first!
Learn to ask next time...sorry about your week with the dog!

I have said yes many times as a result of excessive alcohol intake. Really, I shouldn't answer loaded questions unless I am sober. As a result of this my Friends have introduced the phrase 'Drink Talk' which can be used as an excuse to retract a statement, on 'the morning after'.

I used to do that all the time then I resented the person instead of myself for whatever I got myself into. Nowadays instead of saying "of course, what is it?" I joke and say "That depends, what is it?" So if it's something that would be too inconvenient or I couldn't do, at least I could say "let me check and get back to you" so I could have more time to decide if I could/want to do it or not.

When I was 9 my best friends brother was 18. He was a dick who always molested us. We didn't tell him to stop, or say no, so I consider that saying yes. We really didn't know what to do. He had been doing things to her for so long, she actually thought that it was normal brotherly "love". It didn't stop for three years, till I moved out of state.

When the preacher said do you take this woman to be your wife, I should have said NO. Second marriage was a joke. I was such an a--hole, I did not deserve her.
