Absolutely nothing. I am one and get all sorts of stick. but I don't care. There are more deaths in the name of religion (which no one can prove one way or another i.e. whether or not there is a god/heaven/hell etc.) and we should all be free to have our own thoughts/beliefs on the subject and not be harassed by people who think they know it all.

There's nothing "wrong" with being an atheist. Just bear in mind that people of all religions are going to try and convince you that there is a God (or Allah, or whatever). Christians are instructed to share the Gospel with everyone because the Gospel is for all. Unfortunately, many Christians go overboard and think it's our job to convert people. Christians don't convert anyone. It's your choice whether you believe in God or not. Remember, though, if you believe there is no God, you had better be right...and it's too bad that it'll be too late by the time you find out for sure.

NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING AN ATHIEST!

But respect for those who have a faith of some description is important too. Being an atheist doent mean not loving, caring and showing respect.

An interesting point however:-

The majority of the wars throughout world history have in some way been caused by differences in religion and beliefs. Thus, one could argue that religion is in fact the biggest killer on this planet!

Pretty ironic when religion is widely associated with sanctity and love....

i was not brought up going to church, but even in elementary school, I had not really known about Jesus yet, but just to look around me and see the massive trees, the beautiful sky, seeing that I was poor, but never really lacked anything, wondering at the fact that there was so many people in the world and somehow each unique, when I saw the sun rise and the moon appear, when I saw shooting stars, and when I felt the cool breeze on a hot summer day; I could not see the wind, but it was still there. If I denied the wind because I couldn't see it the wind would still be there. And even with so much evidence it is hard to believe that someone could believe that there's no God.

Nothing. The word faith is basically a belief in something for which we have no proof, which is religion. There is no proof that God exists however for those you choose this path, so be it, that is the beauty of freewill (if you live in a country of choice and democracy) Religion, unfortunately has been the cause of many of society's wars, throughout history and it continues today.

What is important is that you've made your choice for the right reasons, not merely to make a stand against religion but because its what you believe. If we were created in the image of God then love and care for yourself and those around, simple. Religion is distorted through interpretation after interpretation. Henry the 8th created the Church of England (reformation) so he could get a divorce.

I think you should think of yourself as an agnostic more than atheist, surely most of us believe or want to believe that there is something out there whether it be MOTHER NATURE looking after us balancing things out wherever she can, or even an equivalent of THE FORCE (star wars fans will know what I mean) If you really do consider yourself an atheist I wouldn't say it was TABOO just a personal view brought about by your surroundings, influences etc like most people have a faith/religion because of their upbringing/surroundings!

theres nothing wrong with being an atheist. christians say you'll go to hell but the problem with that is atheists don't believe in hell or heaven. it is taboo because 95% of the people on this planet refuse to admit that their god might just be a myth (in my opinion, god IS a myth). what would they do with their lives if they found out he doesnt exist after all? they would be totally lost. we would have to create a whole new profession of therapists!

The natural inclination that we have been created is that, all of us instently believe that we have been created by a supreme being who is above His creation and there is nothing like Him.
Its is only when we grow up in a particular society and environment and that which we live in, that affects our thought, understanding and belief. When we reach the age of maturity and understanding we can make judgment and think for ourselves as we have been bestowed with reason, logic and an intellect. One has the free will in how to live their lives and what to believe in.
In the past majority of the people used to believe in a supreme being that created us (God) and there were hardly anyone disbelieving in this nor propogating it. It is only in the last century that disbelieve in God took hold on many people due to them thinking that Science is the answer to all questions. Also, due to Darwin Theory (Which still is an illogical, racist theory!)
An Atheist may say he is an Atheist, a disbeliever in God, but when he/she is ill (ask them) who do they call out to. There answer would be 'O God!'

There is nothing wrong with being atheist. It is your own choice to decide whether or not to have a religion or to even believe in God. I personally do not have a religion, but I do believe in God. But I would personally respect you for who you are and not that you are atheist. You believe what you believe and everyone shouldn't disrespect you for being atheist. Some people are just raised that way and others just haven't seen a good enough reason to believe. I don't know why you are atheist, but I wouldn't see why I shouldn't like you. Just ignore people that are judgmental.

When a person has opted to claim the title of "atheist," they have literally chosen to believe there is no God. Making a choice like this cuts that person off from their Maker.

If you read long enough in the Old Testament of the Bible, you will learn that God does not look kindly on a person who does not believe in Him. He claims several times in the Old Testament to be a "jealous" God. If you read in the New Testament you will find that Jesus, the Son of God, states baldly and boldly that, "if you are not for me, you are against me." We are given no middle ground. This is such a profound decision - it is literally a decision that affects your immortal soul forever. This is why the decision to be an atheist is so taboo. You can wind up in Hell if you make the wrong choice.

I've never heard that Hell is fun, but having God's grace is life changing, uplifting decision. What happens to your soul after you die is eternal life if you choose to serve God and eternal damnation if you choose to serve the Devil. Both are real. Both are out there actively pursuing souls. Only one, God, is the right choice.

Hope this helps and you make the right choice. You are on your way to doing that by asking questions and learning. Once you have all the facts, you will choose God. I'm rooting for you!! :)

being an aetheist is difficult, you believe that you live and die and that's it. being an agnostic, means that you believe there may be something after death, which is so much easier to rationalise. religion, for me, is for very weak people who need some sort of belief to get through everyday life in the hope that they will be 'saved' and have fun in fields of gold or 21 eternal virgins etc etc. Go through life helping others and I believe good things happen to you on this earth and MAYBE afterwards. I've been a very lucky guy in life and I'm an agnostic!
