The fact that you are pregnant does not increase your chances of getting the HIV virus from her. HIV is commonly contracted through body fluids, such as blood and mucus. If she were to prick her finger with a needle and then her blood somehow got in an open wound you may have, then yes there is a good chance you could get it. Also if you would happen to get it, yes it is possible to pass it on to your unborn fetus...........getting it from her is not very likely, but I can see your concern.

Actually, that lady should be more afraid than you than you are of her. Unless you're working around her blood, you shouldn't have to worry. Since you will be tagging clothes with her, though, she'll make sure she's careful around the staples and staplers... and I doubt that she'd be such a klutz that she'd be cutting herself all the time. If she had a cold, then she could pass it to her... but it's no different than if a person who was HIV negative passed one to her. However, if YOU are sick, just try your best to keep it to yourself as you would if you were working with someone who is HIV negative. SHE is the one with a compromised immune system, and whereas you'd get over a cold in a few days, for her it could take a whole lot longer. Another thing is that she'd be on medications that would keep her immune system up so don't be too alarmed if you get a cold. Again, if it's anyone who should be scared, it should be her, and not you.
Oh and one other thing... Please ignore the people who are abusing you for your fear. It's that yes, people would know that they're not in danger, but with HIV being as horrible as it is, you'd think you can never be too sure... so please ignore those people who think it's silly that you'd ask such a question. They act all brave now, but if they were put in your shoes, they'd be wondering the same thing and all reason would go out their heads.

Are you having sex with this person? Are you sharing needles with this person?
If you are not exchanging personal bodily fluids with this person, you are not going to get HIV.
Everyone gets colds, everyone gets the flu. If you excercise an appropriate level of caution in maintaining your health, this coworker is going to have NO bearing on your health or your babys health.
People with HIV aren't always sick. One of my best girlfriends was raped and contracted HIV from the man that raped her. You would never even dream that she's HIV + unless she told you. I honestly didn't believe her at first. In over two years of knowing her, she has never had a cold. She has never had the flu. She hasn't even had an ear infection. Just because someone is HIV + doesn't mean they're sickly.

The only way you can get HIV from this woman is through bodily fluids. If she cuts herself and bleeds don't touch the blood. Anything that comes from her body you should not touch and you will not get HIV. You will not get it by hugging her, or talking to her. You can treat her just like anyone else. Just be cautious but don't treat her like a freak because she isn't.

No! You can only get HIV/AIDS, from blood. If she cuts herself and you have an open wond her blood got in, you could get it from that. But you can not get HIV/AIDS, from someone having a cold or breathing around you. There are plenty of people infected and you would never know it because they are allowed to live without wearing a sign, you could come in contact with these people at grocery stores or anything. You will be fine.

No the only way you can be exposed to the virus is to come in contact with her blood. Even then you would have to have a wound that was opened or exposed and her blood would have to get on it or in the wound other wise no she cant get you or your baby sick. Don't be so closed minded when it comes to people with the HIV/AIDS virus. If you are so concerned read up on it on the Internet or talk to your doctor about it.

No only by blood to blood contact, like sharing needles, or through sex - seems unlikely.
How do you know she is HIV positive, surely your boss did not tell everyone a very sensitive part of her medical history??

It is dangerous at any time to work around and HIV infected person, however...in medical school we were taught to treat all of our patients as if they had HIV. Follow your precautions and you should be fine. Pregnant women work around HIV infected people everyday. If it is that concerning to you, ask for a medical leave of absence until the baby is born.
Good luck!

Are you truely this uneducated about how HIV is transmitted?
Don't have sex with her. Don't share needles with her. Don't come in contact with her blood. Infection with HIV occurs by the transfer of blood, semen, vaginal fluid, or breast milk. That should pretty much cover it.

You cant catch HIV unless you swap bodily fluids, ie you both cut yourselves and then rub the cuts together to swap blood etc
