Human or not, it is their responsibility to use reason, detached from passion, to apply the laws as they are written, in making their rulings. Anything else is improper, no matter how much you might like that particual decision.

The Judiciary's place is the application of law to a particular situation. It is the Legislature's job to make those laws. Don't like 'em? Vote for new legislators. THAT'S the process. Anything else is improper, counter-productive, antithetical to the basic principles of the Constitution, and really annoying.

To those who say "They're only human": Shall we excuse high school teachers for sleeping with flirtatious 18 year old students because "they're only human"? How about your cheating spouse... will you so casually dismiss that, too?

Judges rarely rule for naked political reasons. The last time that happened was when the US Supreme Court gave the election to George Bush. In fact, when ideological reasons are most important to a decision, you can be certain the judge is a Bork. To hell with reason and precedent. Let's change things our way.

Most of the time, most judges try to find the laws, regulations and precedents that support their decisions. On occasion, that search will result in a change of decision, but not often. The closer an issue is to "settled law," "black letter law" or similar phrases, the less likely a judge will want to try to change it - unless they are ideologues, who are usually the conservatives.

Certainly. Many contend that the Supreme Court voted 5-4 in favor of George W. Bush during the contested election of 2000, right down political lines.

Yes ! so next time you find a judge doing it... Hang HIM ! (sorry for shouting ) Tell the police and that bloody judge will wish he were never born. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW ! The most appropriate law is God's conscience and not the stupid law made by the humans in this world

Of course they do, but they try to hide it and deny it. Look at the US Supreme Court, the first Bush decision which basically suspended an election count. The decisions on segregation interpreted the same constitution differently

There are societal and plotical pressure that effect judges sometimes for good, sometimes for bad/

Sure they do. Did you hear about the Federal judge in Detroit that ruled government wiretaps under the Patriot Act were unconstitutional? Did you know she has ties to the ACLU?!?!!

Since judges are human, I'd bet that it's happened at least a few times.
