I want to learn Bridge and Rummy. What are the ways to get competent _before_ playing with other players who I have to teach the games?

Rummy is pretty easy to learn you just need to rememer that you always have 7 cards in your hand at all times and you need to collect either 4 and 3 of a kind or in row or 7 in a row. In other words you could have 4 aces and 2,3,4 of clubs or 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 of clubs and either will win you the game.

Probally best to play with someone who knows.

As for bridge it is slighly more complex and there are various different versions. Probally best that you practice against a computer first. see the source for a downloadable game to get you started.

I've learned alot of card games by playing online. You can try pogo.com or other free games sites and practice.

Look at other players and see how they play the game.

if you can find the game you want too learn online (yahoo games are good) you can learn through experience!
