My girlfriend has been on antibiotics and diflukin to help with a vaginal yeast infection . She is also taking "inner health plus" and I have recently started taking it too.

My question is what causes thrush in women , how long does it take to cure and what are the effects on me if we continue to have intercourse.

Thanks for your ansers.

First of all thrush is a yeast infection of the mouth, it is never found anywhere else on the body. A yeast in the vagina is called that, vaginal yeast infection. Second Diflucan is a single dose medication although sometimes it is prescribed for 2 doses. Third antibiotics are NEVER prescribed for a yeast, it doesn't work that way. I have no clue what inner health plus is but it could very well be the cause of the yeast imbalance. I would run not walk away form this crazy stuff. Fourth, if you have had intercourse you could be harboring the yeast and will continue to pass it back and forth until you are both treated and this is true of bacterial infections as well especially if you are uncircumcised.

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:

Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.

If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

Thrush can be caused by taking antibiotics. You two should probably take a break while things get cleared up. You need to be treated for the yeast infection - It can be passed back and forth.

The yeast link at www.hufa.org has some basic info on the cause of thrush which is the candida (yeast) fungus. The cause is that yeast cohabitates in our intestines to help us digest food. If "inner health plus" contains active acidophilous bacteria that can help. Yogurt has that too - the plain kind.

I can totally relate to what you are saying.

In addition to her meds, she should increase her intake of yogurt, stay away from sugar if at all possible... and take acidophilus, which will put the 'good bacteria' back into her system to fight off the bad stuff. If she is still taking an antibiotic, have her wait two hours or so before taking the acidophilus. (I think I spelled that correctly) you can buy the stuff at Walmart, Target, or any health food store. It worked wonderfully for me.

Thrush generally takes place in the mouth and can be caused by oral antibiotics or oral steroid medications (like for asthma)
Generally it requires a new prescription to get rid of it

It is common for women to get thrush from intercourse. This is due to bacterias literally being pushed back into her urethra during intercourse. My girlfriend experiences the same and we have discovered that if we wash ourselves quickly before intercourse she does not get thrush from sex.

At the same time men can experience thrush like symptoms from unprotected intercourse. This includes discomfort and mild discharge.
