I personally have an 4gig i-pod nano, which I'm very happy with. But if you want more storage I'm sure there are mp3s out there that rival the ipod and are cheaper. Try this link to Which for reviews and comparison - http://www.which.co.uk/reports_and_campaigns/audio_visual/reports/audio/personal_stereo/MP3%20players/MP3Players_essential_guide_574_84617.jsp.
Hope this helps :-)

well, its all opinions, so for what its worth here's mine. I own a 60gb ipod, recently purchased after months of research. I did not want to buy one, as i see it as a highly proprietary system that ties you in to Apple's marketing philosophy, however, it is the most supported device of its kind on the market, there is more aftermarket goodies available than any other player, i have an ipod ready stereo in my car, a colleague has a Bose docking station etc. etc. . So.... there is alternatives, but currently ipod has to be the one for your requirements. If you can wait, Microsoft hope to launch a player nearer Christmas, so maybe that could be the one. Anyway good luck, i don't think you'll regret ipod.
hope this helps

Aaaaahhhhh Don't listen to the other idiot talking iPod, unless you want to have to oay to have it "serviced" when it breaks, and have to have it attached to the computer forhours to charge. It's over marketed junk.
For the best players buy a Creative Zen, there are many to choose from, no servicing, a real charger which takes 1 hour, great quality. proven by the fact they are apples biggest threat in the Mp3 market, and don't advertise. Word of mouth carries them far.
