If you're lucky, they'll fall asleep. Otherwise, music they like.

I have never done a trip that long but I flew for 5 hours with a 1 year old and a 3 years old. Its all in the packing. Books , toys crayons, ANYTHING magnetic, check your local toystore for travel games, flash cards, at one even flash cards can be a fun game. Bring some things that the child has never seen before and a few things that are comforting and remind him/her of home. Get lots of rest the night before your flight, and remember most importantly, no matter what you do theres going to be some fussing or cranky times. Take them as they come, try your best to cheer the little one up and if you can't, you can't. Have fun and have a safe flight!

I wrote this for another mother asking the same question. I hope it is useful for you too.

Hi! I grew up overseas and was constantly going back and forth from England to the US--from Germany to the US. And now as a mom--I still have to do it! I'll tell you the first thing to do--get the jitters out of your system. There is nothing to be nervous about! It's all abou time and patience with your daughter/son.

First thing; make sure your child drinks or has a pacifier durning take off and landing. It helps with thier ears popping and cabin pressure.

Next; bring a few toys and books. Also buy a new toy or a new book. Durning the flight give your child one toy at a time. This makes sure he/she will stay occupied and not get bored of the same toys. Every time he/she gets bored with a toy, give them another one. If he/she really acts up give them the new toy.

Another thing; I'm guessing your child is on solids now. If you are buying two ticket, and you child has his/her own seat. I'm pretty sure you can bring on the solids. (With everything that has happened since the last time I've traveled, I don't really know. Call the airline to find out!) Make sure you bring wipes, bibs, (the Pampers Bibsters are nice) and some disposible spoons. It's nice to have everything disposible because you can just toss it and forget about it. Feed your child on a normal schedule.

When it comes to packing your carry on bag for your son/daughter organization is key. You want to have everything be easily accessable. I normally but everything in seperate ziplock bags just so I can reach in an grab everything at once. Diaper changing: pack one diaper and as many wipes as you normally use in one ziplock. That way you just have to pull the bag and do you thing. It also is a handy trash bag! Feeding--put a few wipes, a bibster, the food, and a spoon in a ziplock--it'll make it eaiser.

And lastly--relax. Your child will do great--I'm sure of it. Best of luck to you! Have fun!

--I really didn't mean to write so much!--

As for DVD players and other forms of electronic entertainment, sure they hold a child's attention for a while but personally I think interactive toys are great also.

Anything, children are easily entertained. Bring a small toys and books. Heres an example of the kinds of toys you might want to bring.

I know you didn't ask for a book or all the other added information--I just thought I'd leave it on just incase you have other questions or need other advice. Best of Luck--Lindsey

If he will watch movies or something, try and get a cheap portable DVD player, or borrow someones. He is going to get bored, but try and entertain him with a movie. Or go and buy him some new toys for the flight. That way he has never seen them befor and might be more willing to play with them.

Any type of activity you would normally do, that she can do sitting down. My daughter loves the large plastic legos, books, loli pops, Dora the Explorer (travel dvd players!) Good Luck

travel dvd player, noiseless toys, mp3/cd player, food, things that he can "destroy" and noisy things...though limit these so they don't annoy others.
