Not everyone realized what a great man he was and how much he gave to all the critters he loved before he died. I've been following him for years. Also keep in mind he was doing the same thing long before he met Terri and they did the first episodes of Corc. Hunter. The Aussies thought he was 'da bomb' long before Americans even knew he existed.

I have never seen anyone with as much love, respect, and understanding of all the animals he worked with. His energy and enthusiasm in even the little things in everyday life make him a role model I and many others look up to.

On a side note, he knew what he was doing when he was feeding the croc (forgot her name, sorry) with his baby, why do people keep harping on it. He loves his children and would never put them in danger.

Steve Irwin will be greatly missed. His work will continue through those he worked with, and through his family. But no one will ever do it like he did. He had complete respect for the animals he dealt with, and although it may not have come through on camera, he never took what he did lightly, but understood all the risks and felt that it was worth it to try to educate the rest of us about the other creatures we share this world with.

A note on why more is said after one dies -- when someone is alive, we automatically take for granted that there will be time tomorrow to say how wonderful we think they are, or how great what they do is. It is not normal to expect that a 44 year old man will be taken from our midst. Thus, we wait. This should serve as just one more reason to never expect tomorrow -- today is a gift many of us miss because we are looking to the bigger gift of tomorrow.

Stephen Robert Irwin (22 February 1962 – 4 September 2006), nicknamed "The Crocodile Hunter", was an Australian conservationist and television personality. He achieved world-wide fame from the television program The Crocodile Hunter, an internationally-broadcast wildlife documentary series co-hosted with his wife Terri Irwin. Together with his wife, he also co-owned and operated Australia Zoo in Beerwah, Queensland, founded by his parents.

Yes, he was a great man, but I agree with another user, why do we realize this when he is dead? By the way, it was his fault, cause he was making a documentary...So Rest In Peace...and move on...

I really don't see al of that. No one was saying these things when he lived. Do we have to die to be truly realized? Many others have done what he did, some to a greater extent.
