Frequency Modulated

Amplitude Modulated

* AM - stands for Amplitude Modulated electromagnetic wave. It is used for AM broadcasting, for example.
* FM - stands for Frequency Modulated electromagnetic wave. It is used for FM broadcasting, for example.

AM is prone to interference. The amplitude of a signal can be relatively easily altered by external interference.

FM on the other hand is much less prone to interference because the frequency of a signal can't be altered easily by interference.

Therefore, FM is more suitable for high fidelity broadcasting.
