Look at the size charts for the brand or store you are shopping at. Then pick the size that includes your largest measurement(s). For most men, it's their chest and torso while women more commonly have larger hips and thighs.
When shopping, your chest meausrement would be the bustline in women's. Your waist in jeans and pants would be the size to go by, not a hip measurement.
Example:
If you are a 46" chest in shirts and jackets, then you need a Women's 20 for a blouse or dress.
If you are a 30" waist in jeans and pants, then you would need a 12 in Missie's skirts and pants.
You might also want to look at stores that specialize in transvestite clothing.

Experiment with different sizes. It depends on how large the man in question is.
Buy cheap clothes from a charity shop or Ebay to get a rough idea. Then there are more pennies left over for glam/quality items.
Also try enquiring with places like http://www.doreenfashions.com/ who do clothes and feminine shoes that would fit better.

Ask a good shop that specializes in that sort of thing. I don't have any connection with them at all, but I've heard there's a shop in Greater Manchester called "Transformations" that's good. I bet they're on the web.
