8th....you learn the same old crap....nouns, verbs, etc. I was in advanced English and we learned at an advanced pace, but it was still the same thing.
9th....we did diagramming sentences which was just stupid. We read Romeo & Juliet.
10th....we read Julius Ceasar
11th...we didn't do a thing! We read Red Badge of Courage I remember and one of the Shakespeare plays, but I can't remember which one....MacBeth maybe. We just read it though....didn't do anything else with it.
12th...we read Cantebury Tales, and another Shakespeare play....possilby Hamlet or Othello. I can't remember...I graduated 10 years ago so I'm surprised I remember that much!

What exactly do you mean by 'topics to be discussed'?

Anyway, I think, besides the course(Literature and Grammar), maybe some great stories, some good writing tips, vocabulary (games maybe played to improve them) and reading speed are other things important in an English class.
I think English is all about creativity. So the creative corner of the mind should be worked on the most.
