Hi

I had a Mirena coil. I had it in for only six months total. My periods did settle down, although I did still have them for far longer than you should do (3-4 weeks at a time, but it was problematic before that) The worst thing about it was the fact that I kept on storing up horrible foul smelling water that would chose THE most embarassing times to expel itself (waiting at the luggage carousel in Heathrow airport was my best!!)

After the coil I had a hydro thermal ablation, which also did not have the desired effect, so I am now 10 weeks post op hysterectomy!! YAY!

I think the simplest answer though to your question would probably be that everyone is different and not to pin your hopes on it.

Have a look at www.hysterectomy-association.org.uk it has loads and loads of info on there and is really not just about hysterectomies.

Good luck!!!

I had the Marina coil fitted some years ago. As I hadn't had children at that time, it was a bit painful having it fitted (it is apparently much easier if you have already given birth). I di it because I really heavy, painful periods. Once the bleeding settled down (about two weeks after having it fitted) it turned out to be the best thing I've ever done - no periods for months, no weight gain etc.

Unfortunately I had to have it removed after about three years because I got an infection. After that, I was ready to start thinking about having children, so I didn't bother having another one fitted.

I had that coil in after the birth of my last child but i found i had weight problems instead of loosing i gained and this is not due to over eating i eat very healthy and exercise most days i didn't stop having periods i found them to be very heavy and painful so it may not be suitable for you with having heavy periods now it could make them worse or you could be lucky and they stop, any coil affects people in different ways good luck in your choice.

Hi it's called Mirena, and it works by hormones entering your bloodstream. Your periods may stop altogether, but because its hormonal ther may be side effects such as weight gain & mood swings, just like any other contraceptive. If your periods are heavy then go for it! By the way you also have a thread hanging down from it. Mmm, nice thought. Bacteria.

I had the quay coil geared up & its the wonderful component I ever had. I had very heavy, painful sessions & endometriosis, which purely took over my entire existence at one time. you be attentive to once you have a clean-born toddler & each and every thing revolves around them? properly that replaced into me & my sessions - I had to maintain a relentless examine on what replaced into occurring & they could scream, throw up & mess their nappy at any time, everywhere, unexpectedly! (You get the image....) considering having the coil geared up my sessions have quite taken a back seat in my existence, in fact in specific situations I dont actually have a era, it is great. All i will say is we are all diverse & your pal could take to the coil ok, like me. i replaced into approximately to have the interior my womb 'micro-waved' (there's a technical call for it, yet Ive forgotten) however the quay coil replaced into presented to me final minute. i could say provide it a bypass, something is extra constructive than having factors bumped off or blasted with micro-waves. How beautiful which you hassle adequate to submit this question, Im touched. With love as continuously x

i got the mirena coil in a few months ago because of endometriosis u ned to get refered to a gynacologist to get one in, they are only really used for contraception but if u contraception and u have bad periods u could ask to have it fitted it really does help and sometimes stops ur periods totally and u only get the odd bit of spotting, unfortuantly i still have bad periods but i know people who it has helped, the implant is aparently good too but ur best bet is going to the doctor and discussing ur options and what best would suit ur needs

I'm not a woman, so I can't tell ya.
HOWEVER, the link below has several patient testimonials. Some bad; some good. It seems that you have to be on it for a while (a few months) before its benifits appear. Hope this helps.
