The higher the number the harsher the lotion. 1 is for more dry/sensitive skins and 4 for really very oily skins. Having used this product before I would advise you to go for the weakest you can get away with, as it is quite harsh on your skin anyway.
However a beauty therapist once told me not to use this stuff as it dries the skin up too much and it makes it virtually impossible to do extractions. But I guess everyone has their own opinion!

I think clarifying lotion 1 is less like paint stripper than 4.
I used to use the stuff all the time until one of my friends started working for them and told me they use it to clean the counter and she wouldn't use it even if they gave it away! Not really a good example for her to set........

be careful with any face products ..make sure you test them behind your ear first..........i got compensation from clique because thier mildest product actually burnt my skin.......i stick to nivea now as less active ingredients in it..
