NO works by providing more Oxygen for the fuel. To get more oxygen in the engine you can increase the pressure or add more Oxygen for the fuel to react with. Could add liquid Oxygen, then you could be like the shuttle.

all the NOs does is, to throw extra fuel into the engine, so tht more of the energy is produced and the vehicle goes off in one big ZOOOOOOOM!!!
