Both pay about the same unless you find a waitering job that allows you to keep tips.
Bar work is more fun though. More interaction with people.

I've worked both and definitely found that waitering is more money - as long as you get to keep your tips. We could make £100 or more if we got lucky, on top of basic wages. Make sure you go for somewhere reasonably cool and/or not too cheap, where the waiters are expected to be really knowledgable about food and wine and interact with the customers, rather than somewhere you're just taking orders and plonking down food. And don't do silver service. Bar is more fun, though!

Waitering is better for the following reasons:
1. You come to know about
various types of menues.
2. You are taught about the
preparation of all the food.
3. You are told about all the
ingrediants of food.
4. You also develop the taste/
know the taste of foods, offered
in the menue.
5. You can read the mind/mood of a
client, who has just entered the place,
and suggest him some new dishes.
6. After the bills are paid by the
customer, you get substantial
tips, depending upon your
personalised and quick service.
7. Your interactions with the
client is very frequent.
WHEREAS, THE BAR TENDER
KNOWS ONLY A FEW RECIPE
OF COCKTAILS AND OTHER
NEW BRANDS, JUST INTRODUCED.
THE INTERACTIONS ARE NOT
TOO FREQUENT AS A WAITER.
THE TIPS RARELY COME TO YOU.

Bar work
I have done both i have waited on as a silver service waiter to me the most techinacal tyepof waiing on, and bar work waiting on you dont get much respect from those who you serving and you have no real oppertunity to build up a rapour and enjoy your job,
with bar work you really do get to enjoy your working day you cab chat with the punters have a laugh and there is more freedom and to be a good bar man you neeed to be a good person
the pay well that depends on were you work whilst waiting on you get paid more as silver service and there is very few oppertunitys for tips, bar work depends on the bar but if your good you will never need to pay for an night out ever again

Waitering is better because you get more tips and can build your experience and learn Silver service waiting etc. Bar staff stink of smoke and get drunks for company and you really can't go up much of a ladder pulling pints!!

I earned more in tips behind a bar than waitress I honestly think this was because 99% were off men and when they eat out there lady is with them so they tend not to take much notice! But when they in a bar drinking they do! (If that makes sense)

Neither, both are just as good.
It depends on whether you want a career in Food service or in drinks service.
