Need must be. If I need something to survive, it happens, but when does desire become need?

I don't think desire is an evolutionary tool... instincts are. There are a lot of things we desire that can be destructive like drugs, cigarettes or alcohol. Also, we may mindlessly desire something so much that we would go to great depths to get it that it may lead to self-destruction.

When we are in the brink of dying, desires may suddenly change. What we thought we liked our whole lives may not be what we truly and deeply like because there are a lot of factors that can affect our wants.

What we want may not always be what we need.
