The advantages of tourism is that if you have an influx of tourists, you have an influx of cash into the economy. Tourists are usually willing to spend money, lots of it. The disadvantage is if the economy of a certain area becomes dependant on tourism, if say, your area gets bad publicity and the tourists don't come anymore, there goes the economy, because if the tourists don't come, their money doesn't come, either.
