HELP US, please
We've 4 female grey russian hamsters of 17 months of age. Sunday one is died while another just seems having the same symptoms. He got slim lately, with the skin - belly side - blushed and in general SMELLING very bad. We see he eats from time to time. We've no Vet here and only simple common drugs. The others two animals are good for now. THX

they may have wettail. im not sure from what u said--what is blushed? if it is wettail it is VERY catchy so i would separate them all in hopes of saving at least one. clean the cage VERY WELL. and clean your hands each time u touch one. get them some childrens unflavored plain pedialyte from the grocery or walmart---not sure where u live. put this in the water bottle 1/2 water 1/2 pedialyte to help with dehydration which is what often kills them if its wettail. u can feed them cucumber, soak their food pellets in water to soften them, and shredded carrot if they arent eating. also if not eating feed them pedialyte with an eyedropper. without a vet if they all get it they will probably die.

change bedding daily and sterilize all items in cage. there is a medicine at the petstore called dri-tail---rarely works but if u wont take them to a vet its better than trying nothing.

it could just be diarrhea if u have been feeding them too much fruits/veggies but since u said he smelled i doubt it. what have u been feeding them? if its just diarrhea u dont feed ANY fruits/veggies.

without access to a vet I don't know what to tell you other than I sympathize with your loss - you should however separate the healthy hamsters immediately in case this is something communicable which it sounds like it is - anyone with multiple animals who notice an animal is getting sick should do this unfortunately not everyone thinks to do so until it is too late - I had a guinea pig who died of similar symptoms and was told by a vet it is was an intestinal parasite in rodents and can be spread from one to another in their droppings.

My daughter buys hamsters for her girls and they are always sad when they die because they are trearted like gold. The vet said Hamsters don;t live very long as a rule, so perhaps it is old age setting in, Lotsa :Luv and Luck.

sorry about your hami! sometimes their teeth grow too long, if they do not have sufficient to gnaw on. that prevents them from eating and can give them sore gums. maybe? check their teeth, they can be clipped with a pair of nail clippers quite easily. good luck with the remaining ones. I would be inclined to separate them and disinfect all bedding and toys etc properly.
