Mechanical energy maybe transformed to heat or potential energy as in the case of "roller coaster." The mechanical energy can be transformed 100% to heat but not vise versa according to the laws of thermodynamics.

Get a hammer and strike and keep striking a piece of metal then feel the metal - it will be hot.

Get a piece of wire and bend it back and forth as if trying to break it at some point. Feel the wite at the point of bending, hot!
