There were 9 planets in the solar system a few days ago. But in the meeting of the scientists of the whole world, they firstly announced that they would add three planets in the solar system and the planets would be divided into three categories based according to their distance away from the sun. But in the meeting it was decided that no planets would be added to the solar system. In fact pluto would not be considered as a planet anymore and it would be given a code that is 134340. so now the no of planets in the solar system is 8

The Solar System as a whole contain:
the Sun
the eight planets + their 162 known moons
three currently identified dwarf planets + their four known moons thousands of small bodies (asteroids, meteoroids, comets, and interplanetary dust.)

To J.A., the answerer right above me.... Pluto became the second-largest known dwarf planet in the solar system!

Since its discovery back in 1930, it was considered the ninth planet from the Sun. Because many similar objects were discovered in the outer solar system, most notably the trans-Neptunian object Eris (slightly larger than Pluto!!!!!).
Last August the International Astronomical Union (IAU) redefined the term "planet", and classified Pluto, the asteroid Ceres, and Eris as dwarf planets.

Poor Pluto!

used to be 9 but now is 8 with pluto thrown out. since they found 3 other spherical objects that qualify as planets, they had to raise the need to be a planet, and pluto didn't qualify, so now we have 8.
