JAVA, because it is platform independent. SQL server for databases, and Visual Studio .NET for web application and it's easy to learn. It has integrated development Environment (IDE) provides you with a common interface for developing various kinds of project for the .NET Framework. C and C++ are popular, and powerful.

Visual Basic and Java are very popular, but that doesn't make them any good. They have their purposes but unless you have a very specific reason to use them, I wouldn't recommend it.

Delphi isn't as popular a IDE as it used to be, but is certainly worth considering. It's as easy to learn as Visual Basic, but it works properly as well.

VB is popular, SQL for any database work, Java dervitives for anything web based or C++ derivities for games.
