Recently President Bush in a speech appealed to the Iranian people
"Your rulers have chosen to deny you liberty and to use your nation's resources to fund terrorism and fuel extremism and pursue nuclear weapons," Bush told Iranians.
Although he might be right, do you think, that “him” saying it, would sway support away from the Iranian regime, or indeed would galvanise it ! or will it get ignored ?
Did Iranian president's famous letter to Washington, sway any support from Bush, strengthened it, or fell on deaf ears ?

We, in the USA, don't believe Bush anymore. Why would anybody else in the world? It's likely Bush's wings will be clipped this November as more moderates will get into congress.

Bush is sabre rattling, nothing more. Iran may be developing nuclear weapons, they may not, but at the moment the Americans have found ZERO evidence of that they are. The IAEA rapped the administration for releasing a report on Iran's nuclear program that was full of blatant lies. It seems that the Neo-cons are playing the same busted flush that they played over Iraq again.
Will the US people be as braindead again and allow the Bush Admin to get away with lying you into war again?
Personally, I don't think it will come to that. Even the nutters in the neo-con end of the military must realise that now that they are losing Afghanistan, and huge parts of Iraq, there is no way in hell that they can defeat the Iranians, short of all out nuclear war!
The US has neither the intelligence (as in information), nor the troops, nor the equipment to take out the Iranian nuclear program completely. They also could not cope with the international backlash! Israel would be attacked, Tel aviv and Jerusalem would be hit with medium range Iranian rockets. The Shia in the middle east would rise up and attack your troops there in numbers far and away greater than what is happening today. The hundreds of thousand of Shia in the USA would cause huge disruption and bring Baghdad home to your cities and neighbourhoods.
The Indian, Chinese, Russian Governments and most of the EU would create sanctions against your country, the Iranians would attack and destroy up to 40% of the oil on the worlds markets. You would instantly have gas prices up towards $10 - $15 a gallon and your dollar would collapse in value, your Government would default on loans to the federal reserve and world banks and your nation would become bancrupt once more. there would be a global economic depression that makes the 1929 crash look like a tea party.
If the US was crazy enough to use nuclear powered 'bunker busters' then this could very quickly escalate into a hot nuclear war.
NOBODY would win that.
The fact is, the USA has very VERY limited options at the moment so the only way forward is with hard diplomacy, or risk a very hot WW3!
I do not believe anyone who is sane would want that to happen.
As for your question, would the Iranians listen? the vast majority of them will not even get to see it, and of the few that do, they regard Bush as an imbecile a war criminal and a proven liar so would not believe him anyway.
Why should they believe him, when he said he was not at war with the people of Iraq, and look at how much worse the situation is there now. Death squads, beheadings, collective punishements, less fuel, food and water than before the invasion, less law and order, a virtual civil war. The Americans destroyed entire cities killing thousands of innocent civillians throught the Anbar Province. Using internationally banned weapons.
How Ironic that the USA have used internationally banned weaponry in a war that was about stopping the use of internationally banned weaponry.
Why should the Iranians believe him?

I think Bush is right to go public to let the ordinary people know what their leaders are doing because the average Iranian is never told what their government is doing, they are just fed propaganda through state TV and other media.
It is easy to put Bush down, and whoever is the President of the U.S will get the same stick.
Although I am British I have been to Iran and know for a fact that a lot of the people want a peaceful life and those you see protesting against Bush and indeed Blair are forced by their government to do so and are in fact a minority,if you remember Saddam did the same when he was in power,he was using prisoners etc,you need to hear what the opposition parties say in Iran about this topic and maybe you will get a clearer picture

I should imagine anything President Bush says would be ignored
by the Iranian Government as is the wishes of the individual views of their citizens, and the same goes for what the Iranian President said to the USA. Their culture is very far removed from the western mind

While it may appear as right wing rhetoric all Bush is doing is planting a seed which may or may not grow. There is an opposition in Iran with regards to the moderates, unfortunately they cannot afford to be too vocal. Bush's appeal to the Iranian people is designed to show them that it is the government he considers evil not the people.
As regards the Iranian letter and the Iranian speech made yesterday; These will have no effect on the American public perception of Bush as people have already chosen which camp they belong to and act accordingly.

Bush is an evil warmonger and wants to attack Iran to get their oil. This nonsense he talks is just a red herring to get people afraid of Iran so that the world will ignore a US invasion of Iraq. Unfortunately, a lot of people do believe what they read in the right-wing press but I hope the American people will wake up to the fact that all their tax money is being spent on waging disastrous wars and that their economy is is danger of collapse as a result.

Of course there are people in Iran who do not support the policies pursued by their president but only a CIA agent or a fool would listen to what US president has to say in defense of liberty and freedom.
