How can i share a file in my computer over the internet through a link?

The file is saved in my computer. i want it to be available over the internet through a link that i can send to my friends

Well you can start a ftp server and host it from ur pc but it would be easier to upload it to rapidshare.de or megaupload.com or sendspace.com and then give them the link.
