Homophobia means fear of homosexuality or of homosexuals. Homophobia has nothing to do with racism. People who suffer with a phobia, can often react violently. Hence the use of the word homophobia in relation to the reaction of certain people to homosexuals and the gay community at large.

Please note that the gay community as seen in public is but the tip of the iceberg of what is actually gay in society. An approximate estimate of one male per hundred was the figure given in the Kinsey report back in the sixties. It probably remains true to this day.

Let us say there are about 6 million people in London half of whom are female, this leaves approximately 3 million who are male, of these three million males, 1 in every 100 is estimated to be gay or gay experimental.

We Fear what we do not understand. Homophobia does not mean a racism against Homosexuals, A Prejudice is merely not agreeing with something that you do not believe in, or accept.

Most Homophobic fear the other and are not willing to accept any other belief than what they have been taught.

Regardless, Racism of any gender, Race, etc...is wrong. Regardless of what we have been taught or how we believe.

Sort of like a Grinch. Instead of stealing Christmas, they try to rob the public of the free will to love since they happen to be of the same gender. Most homophobic people are Christians, and they say something is wrong since it's in the Bible. But what I wonder is how they sleep at night when they commit a lot of sins too. They hate gays, which hate is murder in God's eyes. They also judge and try to steal our free will. And as far as I know, premarital sex is a sin too, which most Christians do anyway. And lying and adultery... But that doesn't matter, that girl loves another girl. (Sorry got a little crazy)

I am Homophobic. I also have many gay friends. Prejudice is hatred... I don't hate them, I just don't believe that that particular facet of their lives is acceptable. They understand, and we agree to disagree, and we just leave the subject alone. The "Phobic" part kicks in when a female (not a friend, they know and respect my values) starts hitting on me... aggressively. It just freaks me out, and its happened many times. Its as if they're trying to push it upon me, one has told me that we're all at least a little bi-curious, and that is just manure.

So, Phobia means fear of being pushed into, or touched in a sexual context by someone of the same gender.

Prejeduice is hatred.

Totally different.

This just another buzz word the Neocon propagandist is using to collect votes, and instill fears into Americans over the so called Neocon values and morals. Lindsay Graham (R) Senator North Carolina is flaming gay himself, but the Neocons support him don't they? Lindsay Graham also has stonewalled the gay marriage issue on the Federal level and left the decision to the States as controllers of the legislation. Nothing was ever done over it is my point, since the States have been in control of these issues all along. I noticed above me the gentleman stating that gay must only be men (what a Joke) when women carry the highest gay population, and are mostly Republicans that are gay women with their views. Why did he not mention the Lesbians and so called BI-Lesbians with his selective comment? There is no Homo Phobia is really my motive to this conversation, it's all smoke and mirrors from Neocons to gain votes through fear techniques learned from Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulters brainwashing's.

I have always thought that homophobia was a fear of homosexuals, not a racism towards them.

Because some liberal wanted desperately to sound intelligent. You are absolutely correct in your confusion. Think about it, if you have fear of heights do you express racism toward high places? So fear of homosexuals doesn't cut it. No one is afraid of a girlie-man. Concerning the fool who talks about latent tendency fears, I thought they keep saying it is not about choice and they are born this way. Which is it?

It is a long held belief that males who are disturbed by the idea of homosexuality are harbouring some latent homosexual tendencies. Therefore it is thought that homophobia stems from the fear of addressing the possibility that one is themselves...a queer.

BTW, as I understand it, homophobia is considered exclusive to males. I do not think that females who are opposed to homosexuality are regarded as homophobic.
