Why are mothers who dont work nowadays not called housewives any more? Instead they are referred to as "full time mums" which annoys me a bit as ALL mothers are full time mums, you dont stop being a mother when you are at work!
Should working mothers be referred to as part-time mums?

Im not a mother myself, but if I was, it would annoy me.

I know I'm a man and this may be an unpopular answer, but housewife is the term I refer to. It doesn't mean you are married to a house, it is just a word that evolved over the years. I don't hear a lot of people complain about the word "househusband".

I don't like the term housewife as I didn't marry a house...

I prefer the term "Domestic Goddess" but hubby laughs hysterically until he turns purple when I ask him to refer to me as that... Go figure... LOL

So I go by the term "Stay At Home Mom"

I can understand the annoyance at the term Full Time Mom because all moms working or not are full time moms...

My opinion is that the term(fulltime mom) just means that keeping a house in order and the kids fed and schooled and the grumpy huband happy is a fulltime job. My wife is a fulltime mom, and I believe her job is just as important and sometimes more difficult than mine. For moms, and dads, there is no part time when it comes to your children, itsa full-on nonstop keep the problems to a minimum job that never realy ends. It just slows down a little when their older, but then of course the problems get bigger.KEEPTHEPEDALTOTHEMETAL!

We call housewives "stay at home moms".

I can understand why some people call it "full time mom". i think the term "time" here reflects the hours that a mom spend with her kids. A stay at home mom spends Every single hour time with her children, that's why they are "full time moms". don't be annoyed! this is just a term. what matters is they are both devoted!

im in total agreement with you.

i must say that i have respect for the husbands sho allow their wifes to sit at home looking after the children, but its not healthy, i mean surely she doesnt get exsposed to the world and what type of conversation van they have at the end of each day apart from dirty nappies and so on and so on....

you get some "full time moms" who are just plain lazy though and youd think because they stay at home looking after the kids the children will have manners and will be educated but......t t t.

and sometimes the husband has a warm affair with his secretary because at least someone can talk to hi about challenges in life. its sad

so dont let it annoy you to much, be proud your children is in a daycare or school being educated by qualified people and that you are able to pay for that education,

from on proud super mom to another have a fab day!!!

I am not sure why the change, perhaps they feel it sounds more like work, rather than saying house wife? People feel they have to make such a big thing about their career or job, like it defines them, and "full time mum" sounds more like a career.

The perfect mum provides instant availability not constant presence.

That is a very valid point as most men are at work and we don't call them pat-time fathers!
