Baby wipes contain ammonia - for goodness sake don't use that on your leather settee. Great if other people think it works...wonder if they'll still think that after a couple of years of it when the leather is cracked and ruined. The people recommending good old household soap on a clean dishcloth with warm water and then rinsed/dried off with clean water are right to say that Kim and Aggie referred to this method on How Clean is Your House this week. Now they're not just TV presenters, they really have worked in the cleaning business for years and their tips are usually pretty spot on so if I were you and if you treasure your leather settee I'd follow this advice and bin the baby wipes - or keep them for what they're made for - wiping baby's bottoms!

Use warm water and saddle soap you can buy this from any good Cobblers.
get a sponge and dampen with warm water apply soap to sponge and clean one area at a time.
rinse with a clean damp sponge and wipe dry .
don't wet the settee through.
don't use any other cleaners that contain silicones they seal the pores of the leather and leather should breathe.
p.s get some Tuxan white shoe polish any scuffs apply a little on a duster leave for 10 Min's and it will dye the scuff buff to shine.
just saved you a bundle.
regards tony
saddle soap is neutral and will not damage the leather.
you can also use the soap on anything leather i.e shoes, bags, coats wont harm them
hope this helps

Place a small amount of a gentle, moisturizing soap such as Dove on a damp cloth and bring it to a light lather.
2. Rub the damp cloth on the leather without putting too much water on the leather.
3. Wipe away lather with a fresh damp cloth. Don't rinse the leather in water.
4. Polish leather with a dry towel.
5. Treat leather with a leather conditioner after it has dried completely.
Warnings:
Cleaning leather is a dangerous game. Cleaning can change the color or appearance of the leather. Always test the cleaning on a small invisible patch of leather before proceeding on the whole item.
Avoid products like mink oil, shoe polish and waxes when cleaning leather furniture or garments.

We have white leather sofa's, and the best thing we have found to clean them, is Saddle Soap, bought from a tack shop.
More expensive than baby wipes, which also work well, but as has been said, baby wipes will eventually crack the leather, and also rot the stitching over time.

OMG! Do not use hairspray! This can make matters worse and actually ruin the settee! The best thing to do is to contact the store where you purchased the sofa as they can provide much better, professional information. I personally would use an ink stick but again I would contact a professional first before doing so as it depends on the leather too.

Try the white magic sponge from woolworths- it great for removing marks- i'd never be without one!!- it got rid of the felt tip on my stained door- cleaned ground in marks off tiled and wooden floors that wouldn't shift any other way- brings leather shoes up a treat!!

I wouldn't use baby wipes. I have a cream leather suite and I use the Lord Sheraton products, you'll get it in Asda or Tesco.
I use their leather wax now and again to keep it supple and it's great for removing marks and general grubbiness. Then every couple of days I use their leather shine aerosol. It also takes away the grubbiness but leaves a lovely shine.

You can buy special leather wipes off QVC, they are around 15 quid. I wouldnt use baby wipes as they will probably cause damage over time, I wouldnt dare use one and I think people with kids are not that bothered over their sofas and the state of them. You can also get leather kits on there, I have one and they are fab and really keep the leather looking good. But I reckon furniture stores that sell leather sofas will do them also if you would rather buy from a shop.

Leather, even white leather is pretty resilient thats why its the best sofa material to have especially if you have kids. I would also recommend an unscented baby wipe, for tougher stains maybe a little watered down gel tootpaste (but do not leave any on, rinse it well off)
