I quit smoking 8 years ago. The best thing was to really want to do it and I quit cold turkey. No patches, no gum... those are all gymics that prey on peoples vulnerability. If you really want it, you can. It's a matter of mind over substance. I know many people who wanted to quit but failed many times. You just need incentive and will. I was an over a pack a day smoker BTW.
I guess I should also clarify that as a former heavy smoker my biggest weakness was social smoking. Over the years I would have a smoke or 2 at a party with a drink but now they just stink for me and I just don't touch them. Good luck! :o)

Ten years ago next month I knew I needed to quit because I was pregnant, so I decided to start by cutting down. Figured I would smoke half a cigarette at a time instead of a whole one. I lived in a mobile home and blew smoke out the kitchen fan. After a couple days of 1/2 cig. smoking, right after I had one I went all the way to the other end of the house to the bathroom and when I came back out, I could SMELL THE SMOKE! Oh My God I could smell it and realized that smell was going right into my little girl's room all this time. I have never wanted another drag ever since that moment.

Well I just found out I was pg so I quit cold turkey. That is the best way I think. I hear the gum and patches don't work so well anyway. I keep myself really busy and suck on suckers, candy, chew gum or whatever. Just remember if you gain weight you can always lose it but you can't regrow lungs. Good Luckâ¥

If you don't smoke much less than $30 a week
go cold turkey!!
if its more than $30 a week get patches
because they are about $30 a week for nicabate patches & they are good
i gave up 10 weeks ago today & i don't even get cranky.
you just have to want to give up & thats the secret because even some times JUST out of HABIT i would go to get a smoke & i just would say i don't smoke anymore & that is all there is to it.
I save heaps of money now because the weekly patches are cheaper than fags

I wouldn't introduce to you Nicorette gums or Nicotinell patches as i have spend about 3 hundred dollars getting them.Till now, i have not quit, the best way is to have a strong determination and willpower to stop smoking. I am still trying.
Hope we succeed.

newsflash: if you have the money for cigarettes, you DO have the money for patches to support you when you are still in the process of stop smoking.
I smoked for 30 years, up to 60 cigarettes a day, and could never succeed n my attempts to stop smoking until......
I PRACTICED by not smoking inside my house, eliminating one room at a time. I smoked when I woke up and through the day until the last gasp before I went to sleep, even ashtrays in the toilet! So by eliminating each room, one at a time, I learned to function without cigarettes, step by step, until I only allowed myself to smoke outside sitting in the garden.
That meant, I had slowly learned to , go to sleep, eat meals, drink tea, talk on the phone, work on computer, read, talk with friends, etc etc WITHOUT having a cigarette in my hand/mouth.
So when I decided I was ready to finally stop, (about 3 months after slowly eliminating the house smoking, and thereby changing my LIFESTYLE and WAY of doing everything in my life) I slapped on a patch and told myself "if I can just get through 24 hours without a cigarette, I can stop forever".....
I didn't pressure myself, I just figured that I had cut back to about 15 cigaretes a day, and had learned how to live and work without smoking all day long, so it was just one more step in the journey.
When 24 hours was up, I had made myself the promise that I would never start again, and out of self-respect for myself I havent smoked for 2 1/2 years now, with NO longing for them, just relief that this expensive addiction is behind me now. BTW I have saved about $25,000 already, which I used to repair the damage cigarettes/nicotine did to my teeth!
One step at a time - and rememer - if you can afford cigarettes, you CAN afford to invest in some patches to help you.

Go it cold turkey. That's how my parents did it. Just stop smoking. Hard candy helped. Yes, you'll gain a little weight. But what's more important, being in a size 4 or preventing 27 different types of cancer?
Good luck!

Those don't work anyway.

This book, linked on Amazon, has helped almost everyone I know who has quit, to quit. And Instantly.
Everyone except me. It will almost certainly work for you, you definitely have to read it. I'm serious serious serious. It works for almost everyone. I just happen to be bipolar OCD, which doesn't help with the smoking.
I personally have turned to filters that are affixed to the end of a cigarette severely limiting tar and nicotine. It's going great and I think it will help me. I feel much better.

These are amazing as far as I'm concerned.
For others, anti-depressants are needed to quit. People like me, with mood disorders, need Paxil or Welbutrin.

Quitting smoking is not an easy process, but as long you had the determination on quitting then you got no need to do anything about it. What's important is DETERMINATION!!
