I've got a new laptop after my pc finally gave up the ghost. It is not exactly at the top end of the market, but is a Fujitsu/Siemens so not a bad brand. But it's driving me mad because everytime I try to type in text, the cursor will suddenly jump up into stuff I've already written, messing it all up. Writing this, it has already done it 3 times. Can I sort this out myself, or is it faulty.
Also, don't know if it's relevant, I am using an external mouse as I can't get used to the integrated one.

does it do it with the integrated one and the other disconnected?
Not sure if this will help, but in control panel/mouse/pointer options see if the "snap" box is checked. This will"snap" the pointer to a default button or sometimes to the middle of page (which while typing could mess u up) Check that out, Also might want to take a look under "Devise Manager" right click "My Computer" click manage then click system devises and scroll down to the mouse folder. Open and see if you have both the on-board and external installed together, might be conflict, I don't think that's likely but better to disable it in device manager then venture into your bios... Good Luck

Is the mouse brand new, or just one you've got lying around? I go through mice regularly, as I wear out the left button switch. Before they fail completely, they start double clicking at random, and can get very sensitive. It could be jumping to your mouse cursor if that's the case. Another possibility is similar - you're accidentally tapping on the mouse pad. Go into the bios. Most computers have options to either completely disable the pad, or disable it when an external mouse has been plugged in.

I know that Fijitsu are said to be great brands but when it comes to computers they still have a long way to go. I used to work in the returns dept of a computer shop and we sold Fijitsu for one month and they all came back, every one of them. I do hope yours doesn't have to go back.
Have you turned off the intergrated mouse when you are typing a message. There should be a setting as it could be when you are typing you are accidentally touching the mouse pad and that is moving the cursor (I've done that too many times).
I wish you the best with this laptop as they are good machines I just hope you don't have to take it back.

Well does it only happen with the external mouse? Is the external mouse an optical mouse (red light on bottom) if so you might have it on a reflective surface, which could cause the mouse to jump around the place. Try just using it on a wooden surface with no mouse mat and see if that is any better.

The problem is the mouse.
I have a fujitsu siemens with a similar problem
However you can't disable the touchpad mouse on the laptop without some external software. For some reason windows doesn't allow it.

The first thing I would do is disable to on board mouse. You can usually do this by selecting mouse in the control panel, then click on the hardware tab where all the mice devices are listed. Click on properties and disable it. I had a laptop once which always had issues when an external mouse was connected, particularly USB optical ones.

I noticed this too, and I am also useing an external mouse. Could that be the key to the problem? But it is annoying I must add. I will watch in hope with you to see if this gets answered.
