there is no divorce in the catholic church, even in an abusive marriage you can't get a divorce. that doesn't mean the church wants you to physically stay with such a person, you can still be married but live apart and have separate lives, but obviously you can't engage in another sexual relationship with another person.
the only divorce-like thing you can get is an annulment, which is a declaration that the marriage was defective and invalid from the very beginning and therefore there was no marriage. Usual grounds for an annulment would be things like forcing someone into a marriage against their will.

None. The Catholic Church believes that God does not recognize civil divorces.
"Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." (Mark 10:9)
However there may be hope of a declarations of nullity.
The term "annulment" is a misnomer because the Church does not undo or erase a marriage bond.
Rather the Church issues a declaration of nullity when it discovers that the parties were not truly joined by God and hence a full spiritual sacramental marriage as understood by the Church was not present.
Then the parties are free to marry for the first time.
Grounds for nullity include:
+ Either one or both of the spouses were not baptized persons during the time of marriage
+ An unauthorized marriage by a Catholic before someone other than a designated priest or deacon
+ A marriage where one of the spouses had an impediment such as a previous marriage and civil divorce
+ A marriage where there was a deficiency in consent or the ability of one or both the spouses
With love in Christ.

Far as I know, they only recognize the marriage.
Annulment is difficult to obtain.
Divorce is a sore spot within this religion.
Stems from the divorce of King Henry X111 in the sixteenth century.
Since the Pope refused to accept it, Great Britain broke off and began the Anglican Church.
Now, you be the judge.
Would you want a religion that bends on this issue, or one that believes in the sanctity of the marriage?
So many marriages have come and gone since the sixteenth century, and to this day, Christianity is not unified because of differences.
Ever wonder why other relgions are becoming causes for wars, maybe it's due to the breakdown of Christianity.
Many of the sins accepted by one church are not recognized by the catholic church.
Would you want catholicism to be less strict?
They are trying to adapt to the casual ways of this era, but they can't keep up with it.
The more they try to change, the more the people lose interest.
As for me, having been divorced once, I still practice some of the doctrines of catholicism, and don't eat meat on Fridays.
A great relgion with a wonderful past, too bad the times have changed too much for catholicism.

I marrried a catholic man-and I am not a catholic-I went through all the catholic requiremnts to have my previous marriage annulled-paper work- questions and waiting- took almost 2 years. Sadly-I think they will grant a divorce for anyone and about 500 dollars- but you are legally married by law and neeed a civil divorce too- just like you had to get a marriage license- in USA.
read 1 Corinthians and the only biblical grounds for divorce is adultery= and the Pauline principal that includes abandonment-if he leaves-God loves you- take care-D

There is no law, if the catholic church can bless soldier's to go to war and kill ,why should it matter if you get divorced! This religion is a joke, why? This is the only religion that allows you to go commit all the sins you want ,but come Sunday you confess all the sins you've commit ed to a human being (joke) and then take communion you are free from all your sins!!! ha!! that's why I love catholic women, I can hump them and dump them ,and come Sunday we are all free of sin!!!! yeah!!!

I have been married twice and so has my husband in the Catholic Church and it wasn't hard at all to get an annulment. The priest talked to us and granted it, neither of us had any life threatening or tragic reason why we got divorced from our ex's...Heck i said i didn't like my ex anymore, he giggled and that was that...Wasn't hard at all...
