Do we sometimes tell ourselves that we have a close friendship when it is really one-sided? I sometimes think this after a big move or after a friendship has faded.

Yes, I do think that there is a time in everyone's life where they feel that they have a really great friendship/relationship and end up finding out that it was all in their minds. You're right, it usually is after a big move or when the friendship/relationship is slowly dying down and the person is in denial. Quite sad actually.

I am sure of it, I used to share a flat with a girl who was totally convinced we were best friends when I could actually drink her blood and made no secret of it.
