In my "flying" dreams, I get a running start and jump up in the air (sort of like superman), and once I get going, I have to "flap" my arms every so often to stay up in the air. I try to stay around tree level and the people on the ground don't seem to notice me! When you dream of flying, do you get a running start, fly with hands out front, or flap your arms? Just interested, thanks.

I jump off of a skyscraper usually. I just spread my arms and jump (or usually just fall into it.. like it's not on purpose- and I'm scared). I never flap, as far as I can recall (I'm not very good at remembering my dreams). And I am always extremely high up.

But once, I appeared to be flying all around some huge school auditorium, going uupp and going dowwnn. That was the weirdest dream.

These dreams are both scary and fun to me.

I don't fly very high, just sort of skim along above the ground.
It's a bit like Douglas Adams's version in HitchHikers's Guide to the Galaxy, where you fly by falling over and forget to hit the ground...
I take a step, forwards and then just move myself to make sure that I don't hit the ground. Just as I'm about to, I pull up and I float along.
For some reason I always seem to be reclining and only about 2 feet off the ground.

Still cool though

I usually start levitating (it often has something to do with electricity, I get electrocuted sometimes) a few meters above the ground, but if I want to move or go higher I have to make swimming movements with my arms and legs. :-)
And now that you mentioned it... when I fly in dreams, there are never other people around

yes, in my dreams i feel myself swimming in the air. It's like swimming in the pool but there is no water and it would usually be in my old school's playground.
