Weight gain for women especially over 40 who have had children, is quite natural, so what is up with your nearly impossible standards?

Is it only kids who are saying these things on Yahoo, or is it immature adults too? Is this really a standard for 'adult' men - that a woman must be slim to be attractive? Isn't that just about the outside of the person? Don't people get over such attitudes by the time they are 30?

Women are more empathetic and understand more about life on average. They have the capacity to see what really matters in life and the emotions to understand how to treat others.

Men generally just want to get their rocks off. It's all about their penis, their car and their bank account. They don't, as a whole, appreciate conversations and friendships like women do. If they haven't outgrown it by 30 then they'll be looking to girls in their early 20's to have sexual relationships with because they are too immature to deal with their own problems and emotionally stunted aging.

Fat women don't show up too much on TV and aren't treated well by the world at all while fat men are viewed as loveable, funny, cute or successful or powerful (depending on how they did in their careers) and are all over the TV as acceptable.

It's pretty double standard.

Great question, btw :)

Well, the jury I think is still out on this one.

Personally, I think that it's a combo of both society & biology. I think that we're all programed to find the "best" mate according to how we're biologically programmed, but however, I don't buy the whole "Women who are fat are viewed as having no self-respect and live an unhealthy life style & we’re genetically programmed to avoid them." because some ppl are just genetically designed to be heavier/larger than the so-called norm.

Also, when we have things like entertainment & the media constantly pushing "Loose weight & look sexy!" "Take this pill, take that pill so you can be thin!" “You must always look young & be thin, or you can’t be loved/accepted/respected” & the unrealistic rigid, ideals that society obsesses is perfection. We have an unhealthy preoccupation in the western culture w/perfection. Our culture defines perfection as being as young & thin as possible, 24/7. It's a very biases & double standard, catch-22 based society. RE: It's acceptable to be an over weight man, but not woman. We preach "Just be yourself!" religiously in this country, but society is totally hypocritical on this one. We say just be yourself, but then on the side say, "But just as long as you aren't fat." We scream that being over-weight/fat/obese is wrong & unhealthy, & we exploit the subject & those who are, however, even though we acknowledge that things like bulimia & anorexia are just as destructive (& as life threatening) as being over-weight, we don't exploit that notion OR those ppl who are.

I find it interesting that our culture is the leading one for eating disorders.

well first of all, the media and popular culture tell young girls they are worthless if they aren't a size 2 (my 8 year old is already worrying about her weight even though she is a waif) and second of all, men fall in love with their eyes and women fall in love with their ears. Robin Williams said that God gave men a brain and a penis but only enough blood to operate one at a time. There you go.

maybe the only reason women can stand fat men is because of the fat man using humor to attract them? wheras guys don't care as much about humor because we are self centered?

It's not generally a matter of being hated, just lacking a certain kind of appeal. There are certain shapes that appeal to men, it's an instinct, not a deliberate standard, not something that can be "got over". The same shapes appeal whether they are real women or not, as in Ovid's story of Pygmalion feeling physical attraction to the statue he had sculpted. That kind of physical appeal isn't necessary to a relationship, and it's not sufficient either, but I guess most of us want it to be part of the mix.

It has to do with acceptance. It's acceptable for men to be attracted to regular sized women. At this time it is not acceptable to want fat women.

As a younger fat woman, I'd have to say it's becasue men see us as sex toys and first think about if they could or wouldn't **** us. There's a reason why the expression "most men think with thier crotch" prevades. Physically, there's just more stuff to do with a "thin" body. Also, petite? equates to feminine and men think they have more power in the relationship.

Who ever said this was the case? If so, it does not reflect our personal views.
