well! look buddy measuring an internet speed for your own internet is not a difficult task, lemme tell u how exactly they measure your internet speed.....suppose you r using http servers and port name for is port80 ,when you would you these protocols to hyper text functioning there would be certain connections made between your computer and tht port 80, with the help of rate of data transfering between your comp & port80 few softwares or web based service provider's can tell you wht exactly rate of data transfer is.THat eventually is ur the very required *INTERNET SPEED*

You must calcualte the download and upload speed to get overall of your internet speed. You can try the download speed on the internet but they usually incorrect cos the location of the server they used sometimes is too far(slower) or near(fast) from your isp. This also will affect the result.
Actually it is hard to calculate and its depend on few factors.
