A Pretrial conference is a hearing wherein the court calls in all the parties and their lawyers to discuss the following:

1. whether or not an amicable settlement can still be reached;
2. to simplify the issues of the case;
3. to notify the evidence and the witnesses to be presented by each parties

It is simply a final effort to settle the case and if not, lay the groundwork for the trial that will follow

That's where the court and the attorneys get their schedules straight, the judge finds out what other issues may come up and lawyers find out some expectations from the judge!

the lawyers meet with the judge in his offices to discuss the case, accept motions and other business including arguing about evidence, such asa what is to be admittred and excluded in trial.
