Me & a girlfriend are looking to bakpack all through Europe for about 8 months. Just wondering how much $ do you think i would need not including flights just for very basic accomidation and living? Has anyone else backpacked through europe? Is there much work for backpackers around? Thanks

First of all, you don't want dollars- we dont use dollars in europe. Depending where you are travelling, some countries use Euros, UK uses pounds, and other countries outside to european union use their own currency.

Backpacking is obviously very expensive, you will need money to travel through each country, work will be okay if you are prepared to work in bars or in fields. There's no guarantee you'll get work- so it's usually best to not work and just enjoy the experiences. My friend did this, and his whole backpacking trip cost £6000- I guess thats about $10000. That was just for him, so you are your girl will need double that. This gave him basic accomodation everywhere he went, plenty of money for buses/trains/aeroplanes to other countries also enough money to eat and enjoy himself and see some of the sights of europe.

Hope that helped and have fun!

Don't plan on getting any work, first off. I would plan on 50 bucks a day on average each, depending on where you go. Your biggest expense will be lodging, so I would start by checking how much youth hostels cost in the places you want to visit and get an idea of an average night's stay. Then you can figure that you can probably make it on 15-20 bucks a day for food. If you are smart about it, you can do it for less. So 10,000-12,000 sounds about right for 8 months.

One more thing to add to the above, If you are traveling on a visitor's visa, in most countries you're not allowed to work. Some places you need a work permit.
It helps to know a few words of the language where you'll be.
Hostels are not bad, about $20 a night in Czech rep. Meals from $4 (all that converted from local currency)
