4a+2 = 3b -5
4a = 3b-7
a= (3b -7)/4 thing is I need to know either a or b?

Dunno can't do it.

you will have 4a = 3b - 7.

The onlu option to solve is give adecuated values to constants a adn b. For example, if a = 0, then b = 7/3. The fisrt solution will be (0, 7/3)

Or if b = 0,then a = -7/3. The second solution will be (-7/3, 0)

Really, you will have infinite solutions of this system

4a+2=3b-5
4a-3b+7=0
4a-3b=-7
question what number when multiplied by 4 and what other number when multiplied by 3 will equal -7

a=-1 and b=1

Hi there , this equation is for a linear line on the coordinates because you dont have any of the variabes values you have to draw it . a is for X and b is for Y
make it like this
4x - 3y = -7
When ( x = 0 )
y = 2.3333
When ( y = 0 )
x = -1.75
This means on the X- y coordinates that the linear line cuts the X axis at -1.75 and cuts the Y axis at the 2.3333 and goes to infinity
so given any value of the two you will get the other .

hope i helped

a=(3b/4)-(7/4)

b=(4a/3)+(7/3)

Are you sure there isn't a second equation? We could give a numeric answer if you had one.

If you want to find a solution for both a and b (a numerical solution, rather than just a simplified solution like some of the other people posted), you will need two different equations. If you were only given one equation, then all you can do is simplify it.

-3b to both side,
-2 to both side
than you get
4a-3b = -3

thats it!!
you cant go any far

You can't, as you need 2 equations to solve for 2 variables.

Actually it is 1 equation in 2 unknowns.
So it has INFINITE SOLUTIONS.
For example (1,-1)
( 3n-1 , 4n +1 ) Is general solution for any value of n

4a+2=3b-5

4a-3b=-5-2

4a-3b=-7 add(-2+-5)

4a/-3b=-7/-3b *-3b

4a=-7

i hope i am right
