What was once thought of as something for the wealthy, many more kids are getting braces put on their teeth, and without a thought. Do you not realize that your saying to your child "Your teeth aren't as good as other peoples, so we must fix them". I believe this has a direct impact of their future views about the rest of their body. No one more and more teens are getting their nose and breast worked on.

There is a difference between kids that need them, and the kids that don't.

If a person's teeth are too crooked, then they may have problems with their jaws. Seriously. If it's the front teeth and the kids is young enough, they may have pain when there adult molars and wisdom teeth try to grow in. In addition to the pain, if the back teeth don't have room to grow, they can grow into the skin and jaw causing infections, abscesses, etc... There are actual health reasons for braces for kids that need them.

If the child's teeth are just slightly less than straight, then it's more out of vanity. But either way you look at it, it can be a self confidence issue for the child. Telling them to leave their crooked teeth alone isn't any better than having unnecessary braces put on. Either way they may get picked on at school, and feel bad about their own looks.

I had braces when I was a teenager. I had them for 3 years and before that I was traumatised because of the state of my teeth. I never smiled! I am so glad that I had braces, I can't explain. If braces are necessecity then they must be done . They have nothing to do with your breasts and nose!!!

Having misaligned teeth is not just a cosmetic issue. It can greatly affect oral health in a number of ways. To imply that giving a kid braces is the reason people get boob and nose jobs is WAY oversimplifying both processes.

Crooked teeth are ugly. Kids know this. They can also become unhealthy. Why would you want your kid to grow up with an ugly mouth, embarrassed to smile or talk?

Noses and breasts are a personal thing but should wait until they are adults.

if their teeth are crooked and they are self conscious about it, won't that have a direct impact on their self image?? when someone is talking to you one of the first things you notice are a persons teeth. if you have good looking teeth it boosts your self confidence. did you not get yours done as a kid?? i didn't. parents couldn't afford it. so when i was 42 and had put braces on all 3 of my kids, i did it for myself. one of the best things i ever did.
