Iceland is tolerant of gays and gay rights are among the best in the world there and are being improved even more. Young Icelanders are generally very open minded about gays. The older generation is less open minded about it but they are not as actively against gay rights as in many countries. Some people may not like gays, but they don't give them trouble either.
I think people in the Scandinavian countries are pretty open minded about gays and gay rights. There are more countries in Europe where gays have more rights than in the rest of the world, but I don't know how the general attitude towards gays is among people in those countries.

What part of Mexico do you live in? I'm asking because I'm aware that there is more openness about it in Mexico City, Gaudalajara, Acapulco and, to some extent, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun than in other parts of Mexico. Same as the United States: more accepted in New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco, less or not at all in the Midwest and South.
Some countries such as the Philippines have gay people working and living quite openly and rather warmly embraced by the general population, even somewhat with amusement and fascination.
The area of gay rights, however, is fairly abysmal in all of the aforementioned places..

I don't need to be tolerated to be happy. Regardless of a country's pro- or anti- homosexual laws, you will always find close-minded people
Countries like Denmark, Netherlands, Iceland, Germany, and Canada have some of the best pro-homosexual laws.
Countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, and Syria have some of the worst anti-homosexual laws.
The USA has some good tolerance laws, but I find that a majority Americans (I am American) treat homosexuals with open hostility or basic tolerance...very little open-minded acceptance.

Surprisingly enough, Spain is quite tolerant of Gays. Considering they just made gay marraiges legal (despite interjections from the pope... afterall, Spain is a highly Catholic populated country) and they just allowed a gay couple in the service to wed each other. I grew up in Spain and I have to admit that I am quite surprised by the "new" direction this nation is going in... and I have to say that it all makes me even more proud to have been privy to the culture.

I think in order of acceptance:
*Canada
*Australia
*Germany (very recently)
*Holland
*The Magical Land Of Oz (just kidding)
And by the way tolerance is when you don't get disgusted by something, acceptance is when you just don't mind at all whether something is or isn't there.
Tolerance is the worst form of hate (for me)

It used to be Denmark, but, I believe they have become less tolerant.
Scandinavian countries seem to be more open about sexuality in general.

Perhaps the thought of checking to see where they have legalized same-sex marriages might help you.
