If something is farmiliar, then it means that you understand it which means that you can learn little more about it. Therefore you move onto unfarmiliar things to learn more about it until it becomes farmiliar at which point one will seek out another unfamiliar circumstance in order to learn more.

It means that we all have a "comfort zone", a place from where we operate that is all that we know, our "patterns". When we are ready to "grow" or change, we step out of that comfort zone, and then we are open to change and new ideas or experiences. But that can only happen when we are truly ready to tilt the "picture" just a bit, change our perspective, see things in a different light. It is an exhilarating experience to be on unfamiliar ground, because that is when the magic happens!

We already KNOW the familiar, there's nothing more to learn. By moving to the unfamiliar, we learn the new things that are in this territory.

the learning process of an individual is influenced by his schema... An individual's schema is composed of things that are familiar to him. so when we learn a new thing, we find association in our schema. for example we know the word house. In general sense we may picture a structure with doors, windows, roofs etc. But if, for example, we encountered an unfamiliar Spanish word (casa), then we were given a picture of what it looks like, and we know that in english it is house, then we learned that the unfamiliar word casa is spanish for house.

Experience is the best teacher. Doing things that you haven't done before or experiencing things you haven't experienced before is the best way to expand your mind, broaden your horizons, give you the ability to see from alternate perspectives and view situations from different angles. It's what makes you creative.
