Nations grown corrupt
Love bondage more than liberty;
Bondage with ease than strenuous liberty.
~John Milton
Liberty is always dangerous, but it is the safest thing we have. ~Harry Emerson Fosdick
Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance. ~Woodrow Wilson
and most importantly:
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
It has been proven throughout history that when people give up liberties to gain security, it is only a short time until they have no liberty and no security. people who think that giving away freedom of travel, privacy, carrying arms, the press, and speech so that they can be protected from people who intend to use those freedoms to do harm are fools. how can you accept your security as guaranteed if you have given up your right to provide for your security?
security comes from freedom. if freedom is the master, people will use their fredoms to more effectively provide for their security. security against theft and invasion by using their freedom to use guns. security against despotic governments by using their freedom of the press and speech. security against the greed of local authorities by having freedom of privacy. security against forced perversions of God by having freedom of religion.
This is the right way to do things. any politician who places security before liberty is only out to enslave everyone

When you add total to either freedom or security this makes the choice for freedom very obvious.
When you add limited to either freedom or security it makes the choice for security more obvious.
The sum of those two mental equation nonetheless always put freedom before security. Basically because in all our struggles with others, other nations and life itself we seek a position of the most freedom in which we can bring out ourselves best. Which than becomes the thing we wish to secure. Hardly no one would ever fight to achieve a totally secured situation, whereas most everyone would fight for freedom. Security in that sense is no more than a tool to ensure freedom.
It's like comparing a house to the materials and the tools necessary to build the house. But in the end it is always the house that bears the most importance! And so does freedom in this context and probably in contexts outside of your question.

I'd choose freedom. If there is no freewill, life is not worth living. Frankly, it will be dull. Since the beginning, we had freedom to do good or evil…right and wrong. So freedom is essential. And life without challenge is waste. Challenges involve risks that pose a serious question on security. Life on the edge is more thrilling than living a secure life, all locked up. Frankly, if we ask ourselves a question whether we are safe enough, no one will answer straight. I don't know when I may die. Ultimately, there is no point thinking about security.

i think freedom is very important, but what good is freedom if there is no security to protect that freedom.
imagine, a country who elects to allow the people complete freedom, then because there is no security it is easy for a narrow minded few to commit mass atrocoties, in order to take control. then total loss of freedom.
is better to lose some freedom now in order to protect long term freedom of a people in the future.

The purpose of freedom would be defeated if it is not backed by security. Both are essential and important.
