It is really only of benefit if you have the skills to create a compelling website otherwise your site will just be on of the many millions that get barely any hits because they offer nothing new.
If you are willing to invest time and effort in learning web technologies then you don't have to employ anyone to build your site which involves not only getting someone to merely code but they have to sit down with you and discuss what the site is for and understand your reasons for putting your site up. They then need translate your vision into a website. This process means that you are relying on someone else to do your ideas justice whereas if you build your own site and have the skills to do it then you get exactly the site you want.

(and other companies like it) has inexpensive entry level web site hosting. So just try one out.

With being of a website, you can put all informations (eg: articles, photos, etc) into your website. You can decide which information are stored in your website. You also can earn money from your website by displaying banners ad, selling product.
