snoogan - WHAT?????? heeheehohohaha, i haven't had such a good laugh in a long time! it's no shagging wonder you americans never go anywhere in international tournaments if that's your attitude towards the game! look, i know it's a girls' sport in the states, and fair play to them, and fair play to out german girls too for their amazing achievements, but on the whole, please believe me, it's about alpha males and good, honest sweat!
regarding the actual question - physically in which sense? i've never really looked at football players from a fancying or crush point of view. from a performance ppoint of view, goalies tend to get better with age because they are less dependent on stamina and more on experience. italy's dino zoff is a good example there, he won the world cup at the age of 41. for ptich players i don't think that applies, it's always a gamble between experience and what their bodies can still cope with. look at mehmet scholl, he is still an amazing player, but he hasn't played a full match in years because his body is essentially shagged and he has no stamina left.

No, they are not better with the age, they have more selfcontrol because of their experience, but their game is less, most of the players have to retire before 40 years old, of course there are exceptions like Van der Zaar and other few

i have to disagree because although they gain experience they lose some qualities that are vital in soccer. for example as these player get older they lose speed, agility, and stamina. some can argue that the older players lose some of their motivation as well and the younger players have a lot of heart and strive to complet goals they set for themselves in soccer. also, when players get older they tend to start to deal with injuries as well and also their bodies usually cant withstand the wear and tear soccer has had on and continues to have on their bodies. so in my opinion i have to say no overall they do not get better.

This applies to other games too. But a stage reaches when they cannot stand it physically, to go through the entire period of the game and to endure the total itinerary of a championship.

certainly this applies to some players. but i think the rule is that when they grow older, they get tired. it's only natural. they have more expertise, they know how to play better, but their stamina decreases. See Rivaldo for example.

Few, like you mentioned, are the exception.... Keepers generally are like wine but players in other positions usually aren't.
I think Maldini should also be mentioned on your list!!!!
