It is my understanding that it is against the law to be homosexual in a Muslim country. It is punishable by death. Women must wear veils or burkas. In some Muslim countries being caught in the act of adultery is punishable by being stoned to death. Even in fairly modern Saudi Arabia it is against the law for women to drive. For those who identify themselves as liberal, feminist or in favor of gay rights, WHY does this not bother you, or does it?

I think you need to redirect the questions. "Why are we as HUMANS not outraged about how women and gays get treated in Muslim countries??

It's no good being outraged about anything unless you can actually do something about it. Bad mouthing someone elses country because "it's not the same as where I'm from" is only going to make things worse for the folks actually living there or make the population more entrenched and suspicious towards foreign do-gooders.

Education that my lead to change happens when the children of wealthy and influential Muslims travel abroad to study and see there is an alternative to a hard-line interpretation. Still, I think the put-them-to-death-stone-them countries gave it up long ago, if it was ever true in the first place.

I am a fairly liberal muslim woman, Its only some muslim women who wear the burqa and veil. My veiled friends do it by their own choice. All the women in my family were treated well. In fact my mom never cooked or cleaned because my dad hired people to help her. One of my white catholic friend visited muslim countries and according to her, liked what she saw, now she is the director of muslim school. There are lots of nice Americans and then the ones who want to impose their ways on other. The culture over here is also quite decadent with the breakdown of the family structure. I was shocked when this white guy forced his wife to go to work when their baby was only one month old. I also do not like women to be sex objects. If they have brains then why do they cheapen themselves. Also the christians do not want gays also. Union of man and woman was made to continue the human population not to fulfill their selfish needs.Saudi Arabians used to kill their female infants before Islam. Islam actually liberated the muslim woman. They were given the right to work. They were also given rights to inheritance. They were given the right to choose their mate. They were given the right to divorce their man. They were given the right to keep their earnings and not give it to their husbands. Saudi Arabians are tribal people and they were a lot worse before Islam. A lot of problems in the muslim world are not due to Islam, infact westernisation is making Islamic countries decadent also. A woman can be independent and still be a family person and can save the family bond. Deuce rider looks like a wife beater and is also illiterate, there is no muslim law that forbids woman to drive. The president of the UN is an arab muslim woman. Anousheh Ansari's husband is sending her to space. Most of my muslim women friends are physicians and they studied in their old country, yes they make more money than their husbands but still treat their husbands with respect. Some of my friends husbands do not even work. If I was married to a white guy, he would have divorced me by now but my muslim husband is different and I love him for making my life so nice. Also it may be against the law but their are an amazing number of bisexual men in Afghanistan and Talibans wanted to straighten them out.

I'm living in a muslim country, but am not religious personally. Islam straightly bannes homosexuality for men, and setting laws against it in muslim countries depends on how religious the government is. About women issues, it is not a matter of Islam, it is just a matter of the government and/or the culture. In most muslim countries women are free to wear whatever and drive and so on. There are restrictions only in Iran and Saudi Arabia. In Iran women drive and work and vote and so on, but cannot wear whatever they like in public. you must see them out of Iran, or in private parties ;)

It does bother me, but the nation as a whole doesn't give a crap about stuff that actually is worth paying attention to in their opinion. It it's not baby fed to them by two biased parties ripping each other apart while the rest of the world laughs at us, they could care less. The media thinks stories about stuff like that aren't worth broadcasting but some president coming on a dress or a senator actually might be corrupt or other crap like that, that's what we want to see, especially if it makes the other party look bad. People don't want stories that actually are worth talking about, they want talking heads on the TV telling every thing is okay.

Injustice at the hands of religious extremists bothers any decent human being, liberal or conservative. I don't know of any liberals or conservatives that think our invasion of Afghanistan was wrong. On the other hand, the one Muslim country where none of these laws were in vogue was Iraq. The inconsistancy in your thinking is typical neo-con crap. This bothers me more than anything else.

I don't know. You never hear much from them about that.

I'm not a liberal, feminist or in favor of gay rights, although I do favor tolerance.

They are. They just don't know what to do. But gays... no, they're fine. I've been to the area and it is quite common to se men walking down the street holding hands... the have a saying that roughly translates "Women are for procreation, Men are for pleasure" Sick, but true.

It is MY understanding that liberals were complaining about conservatives heading to bed with those oppressive governments, only to be called liberal extremists. Nobody said liberals are FOR this sort of thing.

Why is it always so black and white for conservatives?
