well, for starters, African Art was greatly influenced by trade with the north. However, their major influences from the north was that of Islam, colonialism & the Roman Empire (in northern Africa).

Nil, I think. Any influence must have gone the other way. Easier to go down the Nile northwards than up it to the South.
