What type of product are you talking about, an financial investment product or something tangible like a toy? The approach of finding potential investor would highly dependent on what types of products you are selling and how much money you would need.

As a general guideline

Individual investors are very difficult to find for start up projects. Because individuals, relatively speaking, have smaller amount of money to invest, and therefore less willing to take the risk for an unproven idea.

Venture capitalists with seed money are more willing to take risks, but they will also take away a lot of your autonomy and potential profits.

Companies who are in the similar line of business and willing to buy and launch your prototypes. You completely loose your autonomy and upward potential profit.

If it is relatively small amount of money you are seeking, I have seen entrepreneurs start with their own money, money from their friends and family, borrow from credit cards, equity loan or small business bureau.

Best of luck.
