I have tried so many products with no luck.
Can anyone tell me a really good fly spray for my horse, either to make or to buy. I need something that lasts several days and repels mosquitos and horse flies.

Hey CJ,

I don't know where you are writing from.

Here in the United States most tack and feed stores (I have also seen it at Pets Smart) carry a Marigold Extract Spray. It's safe for Horses and lasts for several days.

I don't remember the product name, but if you ask about it, they will definitely know what you are talking about.

Hope this helps,

Ever hear of The Mosquito Magnet. That is the product name and it is a plug in product that puts out a mist of carbon dioxide which attracts mosquitoes and then traps them when the mosquitoes land. You can look that name up on the internet. Fly products don't last long. Your best bet is make sure your horse has a turn out to get away from the majority of bugs. Wear a flymask on him..
Here is a recipe for you. Make up an emulsifiable batch of Repel X. Add 3 tbs of Dawn Dishwashing detergent, 8 additional oz of water, 8 ounces of cider vinegar, 4 ounces of Listerine and 8 ounces of Avon Skin So Soft. Pour into a spray bottle.
Most bug spray recipes have lots of ingredients. There are loads of fly recipes available. That's because flies are tough to beat. But, everybody keeps trying.

I have always had excellent results with Ultrashield products (from Absorbine). They are a little more expensive, but they seem to last a little longer. I prefer the SuperShield, as it is all natural. Stay away from Bronco - it's useless!
